Re-Skinning / Texturing Models in Microsoft Train Simulator

Section 1: Contents
The texturing section will take you through the technical principles of re-texturing, for example what
files to load where and then how you make it work so you can see what you've done. Once we've covered that
we'll start to work through some more advanced topics to actually look at how we can make the best out of
the texture you're creating. Realism is the goal, keep that in mind at all times.
While it may seem tempting to go in for the kill with the biggest gun available to you (eg. Adobe Photoshop),
unless you're familiar with it already I'd personally recommend something a bit simpler to use such as
JASC Paintshop Pro (PSP). I use PSP version 6 - and all of the tutorials and screenshots will be taken from
that, however the differences between this and version 7 (or whatever the latest is at the time you read this)
should be minimal enough that the tutorial works just as well. Likewise, for what we're going to be using,
Photoshop and PSP are not functionally that different (ie. they have equivalent capabilities) so all you'll
have to do is work out what Photoshop calls it when I call it Layers (in this case, the same thing, but you
get my meaning!).
This is quite a lengthy tutorial and within it we'll be going through step-by-step repainting of the Acela
HHP into the UK Network Southeast livery. It's a fictional repaint as the loco does not run in the UK but
as it's one i've had plenty of experience with in the past and found it easy to repaint, I think it's as good
a place as any to start. Not to mention that there aren't a great deal of source textures available for much
of the UK stock that's out there at the moment anyway.
