Before you start, make sure that all six default routes are installed, if they are not then this route will not install successfully. The six default routes are contained in folders called: EUROPE1, EUROPE2, USA1, USA2, JAPAN1 and JAPAN2. It is also recommended that you use the latest Winzip (http://www.winzip.com) or compatible to extract these files - the built in decompressor in Windows may not cope well! Ensure you have all the following:
Once these are installed (make sure you have the latest UKFinescale 3.1.6) and just before you start with the route itself you should
then install a new tsection.dat file just to make sure you've got the latest version installed.
First, let's get the main route files downloaded:
Once downloaded, you should have the following files in your download folder:
UKTS_14150_steyning_1.zip Extract each of the files marked in bold (that is 14150 through to 14159 inclusive) in to a different temporary folder (perhaps a subfolder), in this folder you should now have: steyning.z01 Now copy the UKTS_14160_steyning.zip to the same folder that the .z01, .z02 files are in. Rename UKTS_14160_steyning.zip to just steyning.zip. You can now extract the route by double clicking on steyning.zip and extracting it to your ROUTES folder, if your Train Sim is in the default location you will find this in C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT GAMES\TRAIN SIMULATOR\ROUTES. Once extracted, you're nearly there. Navigate to the route folder, again the default for this would be C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT GAMES\TRAIN SIMULATOR\ROUTES\Steyning, and find a file called installme.bat - you need to double click this file to run it (note: If your anti spyware now pops up then grant the script permission to run, some packages such as MS AntiSpyware are paranoid about .BAT files). You should see lots of entries like "1 file(s) copied", if you see anything like "0 file(s) copied" then the default routes may not be present. Once the batch file completes, you can either fix the two activities that are supplied so that you have the necessary stock or alternatively you can simply move them out of the way. For the sake of simplicity, this tutorial will simply suggest that you move them out of the way, you can always put them back when you want another challenge - but they are simply explorer activities each way on the route. Note: If you leave them in, you must make sure you have the required items of stock installed and configured correctly. To remove the activites simply find the ACTIVITIES folder (C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT GAMES\TRAIN SIMULATOR\ROUTES\Steyning\Activities) and move the contents of the folder (two .ACT files) elsewhere so that this folder is now empty. Now you should move the contents of the SERVICES folder (C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT GAMES\TRAIN SIMULATOR\ROUTES\Steyning\SERVICES), two .SRV files, elsewhere too so that this folder is empty. There is currently one patch available for this route.
Extract the contents of this file in to a new, different temporary folder and then go in to the new SteyningUKTSPatch folder. Inside there highlight all files and folders and copy them over the top of existing ones in the Steyning route folder, i.e. C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT GAMES\TRAIN SIMULATOR\ROUTES\Steyning.
