In reality, Class 37's, 45's, 47's or 52's were not permitted to proceed beyond Yeoford Junction due to their weight. The usual Diesel traction used to substitute for failed Class 117 DMU's on this line was Class 29 (63'ers), Class 42 (Warship) or in later years Class 31's. There was a Saturday only Diesel hauled service through to Paddington until the mid-1970's.
