| Bacup -The Facit Branch [10 Aug 2018] |

| Description | : | Introduction
It is about 70 years ago that passenger trains were withdrawn on the line from Rochdale to Bacup, via the Whitworth Valley. Goods traffic continued until 1967, but on ever shortening lengths.
When it was built in the 19th century, the line was the highest on the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway's network.
The Rochdale-Facit section of the branch opened for goods in October 1870 and to passengers a month later. The extension to Bacup followed in November 1881. At the time it was a considerable engineering feat as the line had unrelenting gradients, unsympathetic subsoil, high annual rainfall, bad winters, the difficult crossing of Healey Dell and two short tunnels.
It closed to passengers on 16 June 1947, ostensibly as a 'temporary measure' because of a shortage of coal, but no more passengers trains ran again.
Official and permanent closure of the Rochdale to Bacup branch began in December, 1949. Up to 1952 only light engines ran between Bacup shed and Rochdale but then the line was closed between Facit and Bacup, leaving a service of two goods trains a day from Rochdale to Facit yard and one or two trains a day to Shawclough & Healey. The line remained open to goods until the mid 1960s - at least as far as Facit - but by the end of 1967 the line no longer existed.
Modelling this Route was started many years ago by Peter Holton (PDH). When Peter became ill, it was taken over by John Bennett (partyspiritz), whose late father was a Bacup man (John wished to finish it in his memory). There were a number of contributions to the Route Assets from the Community, many of which have found their way into the UKTS Freeware packs. John, too, became ill, and the build went into limbo. Gordon Mackenzie (gopher) tried to revive it in early 2018, but realised that he was too busy supplying superb coaches for us all to enjoy. I have stepped in, as I required the Assets for other routes (John had already given me permission to bundle them). The custody of those assets now reside with Gordon and myself. I have revised the track types and signals, and added extra features. My plan will be to extend this Route as part of a network - Central East Lancashire Lines (CELL) - which will see the lines from Bacup to Bury to Castleton to Rochdale (much of which is the heritage “East Lancashire Railway”) to complete the circle, and also the line from Stubbings Junction to Accrington. Any extra assets constructed for the extensions will be included under the developer tag “TeamCELL”
Acknowledgements
Thanks go to the many Asset creators who have donated the results of their efforts to the community. We are extremely grateful to them all, and in particular to those who have permitted us to bundle the majority of the assets into a Pack to make installation easier - in alphabetic order of Developer:
3DTrains, 5653Barham, Brendan, briyeo, CaptainBazza, Cil, Cunningn, Decapod, Developer, GMack, JADsHome, JeffLayf, Karma99, Longbow, Mundo, Niall Wallace, SAD, TeamCELL, Willburton, Yelland
and all those who have contributed to the UKTS freeware packs.
In particular, we are extremely grateful to John Yelland, who has constructed a number of custom signals for this, and other routes I am building.
Special thanks must go to Mike Simpson for the invaluable “RWTools”, and to Gary Pedley (gptech) for help with some scripts. Thanks also to the several beta testers who have searched every nook and cranny to ensure that all works as it should (and not just swept under the ballast). They have also tested a number of scenarios, suggesting corrections where necessary.
The contents of this pack (route, scenarios, assets, etc) are for your own personal use and must not be sold or distributed in any way without the written permission of the route authors or the creator of the individual assets concerned.
This pack or any part of this pack must not be uploaded onto any website nor distributed via CD/memory stick without the permission of the authors or the creators of the individual assets concerned.
This pack is only for distribution through UKTS or as decided by the authors.
You may make your own alterations to the Route but you must not release these without prior written permission from the route authors.
PLEASE READ THE READ-ME for instructions on how to install, don't worry, it is simple.

Stock
The mainstay locomotive for the Route was the L&YR Class 5 (known as the Aspinall Radial tank) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L%26YR_Class_5. This has been modelled for the route by Peter and John, and was included in the UKTS Freeware Pack Steam#1. Unfortunately, this model does not have working lights. Steps are in hand to rectify this.
Also included with the Freeware Pack are the 6 wheel coaches for the same period http://www.lyrs.org.uk/Carriages . As modelled, they are without passengers. This has been rectified by TeamCELL, who have provided them with both civilian and military passenger sets (they were used extensively in the First World War to convey troops). The non-passenger versions are still available in the DeveloperELR_PDH folders.
Scenarios
There is a Free Roam set at Rochdale, with a number of locos and trains to run. Quick Drive scenarios from Rochdale, and Bacup, both passenger (from stations) and freight (from goods yards), with several destinations, are included, together with 10 Standard scenarios (described in the Manual supplied). Further ones will become available shortly. Many of the scenarios are Timetabled, which means that you could still fail if you reach a station AFTER your booked time for departure. You can, of course, save a scenario at any point and resume at a later date.
Included in the Assets with the Route are PreLoad files which enable a wide range of stock to be used as AI and statics in the Quick Drives (you can still choose whatever stock you have as the Player Consist). You may add to these at your leisure.
Apart from the stock included with the DLC and Freeware associated with the route, the following stock is included in some of the scenarios:
A. LMS Black 5s from SteamSoundsSupreme – Freeware that can be downloaded from
http://www.steamsoundssupreme.com/free-steam-loco-rolling-stock-packs.html
B. GWRHorseBox by Richard Scott – UKTS ID 25834 / UKTS UK Wagons #1

E. TS Marketplace: LMS P1&P2 LMS Late Coach Pack by MatrixTrains – available through Steam
